Tibetan Ritual Dagger (Phurba) and Cleaver, 15th Century

Description

A Tibetan ritual dagger in gilt bronze, the triangular blade issuing from a hilt carved with the three wrathful heads of Vajrakīla, surmounted by an eternity knot. Fine dragon ornament runs the length of the blade. Accompanied by a ritual cleaver (kartrika) of the same period. The metal retains a dark, undisturbed patina consistent with age and ritual handling.

Provenance

Private collection, Geneva, acquired in the 1970s; thence by descent to the present owner.
